Okay, not the best title for a blog post, I'll be the first to admit, but its exactly what the post is about.
Since I love making lists, I will put it in that format:
- I have way too many RSS feeds to keep track of -- 116. And, I KNOW that is not even very many compared to some folks out there keeping track of all that is going on in the blogosphere. How do I keep up? I have over 3,000 new entries in Bloglines and thats just since last week.
- Ok, if I cannot even keep up with the blogs and websites, articles and content streaming in through my RSS reader, what about all the other reading and keeping up I should be doing that I haven't even found yet? Thats to say, all the scholarly communication, open access, digital rights management, institutional repository, publishing industry trends, blah, blah, blah...etc., etc.
- My reading, writing, thinking (etc.) about my new job responsibilities is still in its infancy stage and I have more questions than I know what to do with. I'll post those later, but suffice it to say, but I'm in danger of feeling overwhelmed.
- How do librarians, and lets also add, librarians who want a social life or even just a family (because believe me, they are two different things once you have a child) keep up? I really want to be out there presenting, giving workshops, going to conferences, but I'm drained. I think I need this year to catch my breath, feel my way, and find my niche.
- Making time. All right, I like this one, but it is sooooo difficult! CIL was rewarding, in so many ways this year, and most importantly because I kept hearing this mantra, Make time, Make time. If its important to you, make it a priority. No one else will. You have the responsibility to yourself and your career, not to mention your institution, since, if you aren't happy, ain't nobody gonna be happy.
Enough thoughts and ruminations. Need to abandon my thoughts for the moment and actually see what is like outside today (80 degrees in Western New York in April -- whoo hoo!!).
